Severe stomach pain that vanishes for months?
I’ve been to the doctor and diagnosed with IBS but I get the feeling that they missed something. I get incredibly severe stomach pain that lasts for around 2 hours around 5 days a week for about 2 months then it vanishes for another 2 months or so. The pain isn’t predictable (I can never pinpoint a cause, time, or day when it’ll happen) and it’s so severe I consider going to the ER except it’s been happening for years and I know that it’s not going to kill me. There is no food, stress or other causes that I can pinpoint.
Anyone else have this happen or have any ideas of where to turn next?
I would go back to your doctor (do you go to a GI specialist for your IBS) and let them know about your pain. The more you can tell them about the pain the better they can figure out how to help you. Maybe you have been misdiagnosed or not, I don’t know but, this your doctor should know about. Maybe when you start having the pain keep a journal of when the pain starts, where in your abdomen it happens and the duration. Also, talk to your doctor and let them know you are concerned that they have possibly missed something, if they won’t go on and re-evaluate you then maybe go to a different doctor under the auspices that you are getting a second opinion.
coping with anxiety/hypocondrism?
So i have anxiety disorder, and while its not as bad as it was last year, its still disrupting my life. before i was in the ER every other weekend, because i thought i was dieing of something. the root of my anxiety is fear of being sick and fear of dieing. so when something happens, like chest pain, abdominal pain, etc, i freak out. it has almst killed my marriage, and i now have tension headaches, chronic pain, i have put on around 40-50 lbs in a year, while i dont have many actualy attacks anymore, i still have to use xanax on a semi regular basis. i eat healthy, i excercise, i try to get enough sleep, but i still have so much stress in my life it seems like it will never end. ive tried therapy and all kinds of preventative meds, but im so bad with pills, my body doesnt really accept it. has anyone else experienced these after affects? is there anyway to overcome this fear of sickness and death? and the lingering fear of anxiety? all help is definately appreciated.
It sounds like you are going in the right direction. It depends on your life style are there things you can change to make it less stress ful. As for sickness. I know where you are coming from. You just need to try different technics till you find one that is right for you no one is the same. My x use to just go sit in the ER parking lot. We use to ride around and talk. I go to the shower and stand there with the water running over my head in the dark. It relieves the tension from my head down and listening to the sound or running water relaxes my mind. I also try to do things i love or talk to a friend to get my mind off of what I am feeling. I have also heard sipping a beer helps. (Dont know how but have heard it from several people. Just sipping one.) Its just trial and error till you find what works for you . Get a journal and start writing when you have a attack it may help with the stress and you may be able to track your anxity and make it better. Stomach pain and problems such as nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, bloating, gas, and cramping, can be brought on by dietary choices and eating habits. Rich food and gravies, uncooked vegetables, new bread or warm cakes, sweetmeats, cheese and all of that class of food should be strictly prohibited.
Foods that are high in fat content, foods that are extra spicy, foods that are high in acid, some dairy products, and most gas-producing foods can all cause stomach pain in otherwise healthy individuals. To avoid unwanted stomach pain, limit your intake of rich desserts, fried foods, salsas, spicy ethnic foods, citrus fruits, whole cow’s milk, homemade ice cream, cream, real butter, cabbage, beans, broccoli, apples, and any food item that contains Sorbitol, a common artificial sweetener.
Aside from food choice changes you should also make sure that you chew your food completely before swallowing, that you eat slower and in a more relaxing environment, and that you avoid eating during times of increased stress. If the stomach pain continues or worsens after you have make these dietary changes, schedule for an appointment to speak with your doctor as soon as possible in order to rule out other medical conditions or diseases.

Therefore, these radiated pains from the other organs of the body may properly be the cause of pain in left shoulder blade.
What all these imply is that the pain felt in specific areas of the shoulder blade may be indicative of which organ may have been affected and have been radiating the pain. Left shoulder blade pain may be a signal of some abdominal or stomach-related problems. This may include ulcers, pancreatic, and ectopic pregnancy among others. Pain in left shoulder blade may also indicate problems in the chest region. These problems would include pneumonia, heart attack and/or other heart-related ailments, aortic dissection, pleuritis etc. Although pain in left shoulder blade may just be caused by some strained muscles and tendons, it may also indicate diseases or pain radiated form the other organs of the body. Why do I get abdominal pain from stress/anxiety?
Whenever I am emotionally stressed or worried/nervous I get these pains in my stomach and feel nautious, and sometimes get acidic feeling in stomach. This has happened all my life. What can it be??
