The dosage levels of medicinal treatments for mesothelioma patients are being studied by physicians and researchers in Boston in order to acquire more suitable treatments for patients suffering from the fatal lung cancer.
Researchers are using two methods of treatment known as intraoperative intracavitary hyperthermic cisplatin perfusion along with amifostine, to assist in preventing cisplatin toxicity, to patients suffering from malignant pleural mesothelioma, which is often deemed the most severe and fatal diagnosis among mesothelioma patients.
So far the study has found that the use of single dose amifostine does “not protect adequately against cisplatin-induced renal toxicity,” meaning that if higher doses of the chemotherapy treatment cisplatin are used, then “additional cytoprotective strategies are needed” to protect a patient from developing toxic levels of medication in addition to their painful mesothelioma side effects.
What is Mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma lung cancer is a fatal condition that can develop after exposure to asbestos fibers and asbestos dust occurs. It is common for individuals who are employed in the field of construction to be at the highest risk for developing mesothelioma cancer, which often remains dormant for years, eating away at a victims interior until it is too late for successful treatment.
Although those working in the construction industry are at an increasing risk of developing mesothelioma cancer, the risk also stems to their family and friends who become exposed to asbestos after an employee covered in asbestos returns home accidentally exposing family and friends to the fiber.
For those who may be concerned about a mesothelioma diagnosis, they can learn more about the condition by contacting a physician and receiving a physical as well as x-rays to ensure that a proper diagnosis as well as treatment is administered. However, it will still be important for a patient to know and recognize the following mesothelioma signs and symptoms as well. There are two common types of mesothelioma cancers that are often infected with cancerous cells: abdominal and lung. The Mayo Clinic reported the following
* symptoms for both conditions:
* shortness of breath
* painful breathing
* painful coughing
* chest pain under the rib cage
* unusual lumps of tissue under the skin on the chest
* unexplained weight loss
* dry cough
* abdominal pain
* abdominal swelling
* change in bowel habits
* lumps of tissue in the abdomen
If an individual develops any of the above side effects, it is imperative that they receive immediate attention from a doctor. Because of the high rate of fatalities associated with mesothelioma, it is necessary for a victim to begin receiving treatments prior to the onset of symptoms, as their risk for fatality will decrease the earlier they are diagnosed by a qualified physician.
Support For Mesothelioma Victims
Mesothelioma sufferers face many challenges as a part of their diagnosis. In order for a victim to receive adequate mesothelioma treatments they must retrieve medical attention, which will assist in easing the pain and symptoms of mesothelioma.
Additionally, it may be necessary to receive details about the development of a mesothelioma lawsuit from an experienced mesothelioma attorney. Constructing a mesothelioma lawsuit will likely assist a victim in receiving monetary compensation, which can pay for the expensive mesothelioma treatments associated with the disease. For the latest on a mesothelioma diagnosis as well as the development of potential litigation, individuals can discuss a mesothelioma lawsuit with a mesothelioma attorney who can provide the most up-to-date news and information on such a case.

would you go to the ER with this type of abdominal pain?
ok, so for the past four years or so, i have been having these abdominal pains, they are very sharp, and come and go, the pain does take my breath away but does not usually last more than 30 minutes, but it doesn’t stay “normal” for long. the pain is in the upper left quadrant of my abdomen… occasionally the upper right side, the pain shoots through to my back. i have had my gallbladder and appendix removed, so those are out. this episode has been going on for a week, the pain is bearable, but quite uncomfortable at times. is it worth going into the ER?…right now i’d rate my pain at a 3, but when it intensifies i’d rate it at a 7.
the surgeries were well over a year ago, and i forgot to add that i have recently been to a specialist who wants me to have blood drawn when i am in pain, but how do i determine when i should go in for the blood work, should the pain be constant, or intermintent like it is now.
Since it has been a chronic condition, I would forego a trip to the Emergency Room. They will take a CAT scan, blood work and give you painkillers.
Contact your doctor on Monday and schedule an appointment. It is possible to have residual pain from past surgeries.
Why am I vomiting every day & feeling nausea with stomach pain?
For several months I have vomited several days, felt sick and had stomach pains. On a few occasions I have vomited blood. I have been prescribed stemetil by my gp but am still vomiting. I have had an ultra sound scan and endoscopy and full blood count and everything has come back normal. What is wrong with me and are there any other tests that can identify the cause?
I don’t know if they have checked your blood Vitamin B12 levels, a friend went through all sorts of tests before they found the source of the problem. A few injections later and she is feeling much better.
It might also be worth getting your blood calcium measured (usually only comes as a ‘bone screen’ which is why doctors don’t think of it), I had high blood calcium and had months of nausea, vomiting and everything I ate tasting foul before they found that one.
I don’t know if these are the answer but you can check out all sorts of things on this site

I was given a print out from one of the doctors when I went in to have my high calcium investigated so it is solid information. I had months of ‘normal’ results, endoscopy etc as well.
i have very bad stomach pain with bloating and rectal mucus and blood without having stools.?
Had a colonoscopy was negative.Sorry im a 54 year old female.has someone even gone through the same or can someone give me advice please.
My brother (about 50 at the time) woke up in a pool of blood. The problem was hemorrhoids. The rest of what you’re saying sounds like you need to see a doctor.
dark green stool and stomach pain ?
I’ve been having a dark green, almost black stool, and sharp stomach pains for the last two days. What should I do ?
I went to a carnival the other day,
and had a blue slushie, could that
cause it ? but i have the abdomin
pains still…
Eating blue dye in foods will cause green stool.
Watch to see if it goes back to a more normal color after all the slushie goes through you. If not, then you’ll want to see your Dr.
For the next few days give your guts a rest with rice, bananas, applesauce, toast, easy things to digest.
Hope you’re feeling better!
