Any Microbiologists or doctors here? I’m freaking out here…Parasites?
I have been having stomach problems for a while now:
Alternating btw constipation the diarrhea
Abdominal pain
Blood in stool (this was a month ago, had liver and CBC blood work, both came back normal, ER doc said Gastroenteritis)
Stomach growling
Mucous in stool
Sometimes pass small white stools(size of a dime)
Nausea
Weight Gain
So my GP is having me provide a stool sample and is doing a full abdominal ultra sound this week.
She thinks I may have a parasite.
I am having serious panic attacks over this, I keep picturing worms in my colon.
I did have fleas in my house in the summer, but got my pets and house treated., and no longer have fleas
How long does it take to get the stool sample results back? and how could I have caught this? I am so hygienic.

I take it you’re having a stool O&P (ova & parasites) run probably along with a stool analysis and culture. The final O&P results can take anywhere from 8 to 24 hours to be reported to the doctor and a culture takes 2 to 3 days. Fleas can transmit parasites. If you have a parasitic infection then that may have been the source. Of course, the problems you’re having currently may have nothing to do with parasites. Your symptoms fit some other gastrointestinal disorders.
