I have a 9 year old with stomach problems……?
My son is 9 and he has been having problems with diarrhea and stomach pain for about a year now…He was diagnosed with Mono last May and ever since then he has been having these problems. Its not everyday..Some days hes fine, then some days he is really tired all day, has a lot of diarrhea and stomach pain, doesn’t want to eat….He has been to a bunch of doctors. He had a colonoscopy, endoscopy, ultrasound, upper and lower GI series, and lactose tolerance..They all came back normal. Nobody can figure out what is wrong with him….He has lost 10 pounds so far. Does anyone have any ideas on what this could be? Any input would be appreciated….
Have they tested him for hyperthyroidism? It sounds like some of his symptoms go along with hyperthyroidism. They would have to run blood tests and be looking for specific levels of hormones to figure out if hyperthyroidism is the case. I have listed a bunch of websites regarding the disorder. If the tests come back and he’s fine I would also see if someone checked him for gluten intolerance (also known as Celiac disease). Sometimes gluten intolerance can cause a lot of the problems your son is having. I had a lot of the above symptoms and I stopped eating gluten (a friend recommended the South Beach Diet for feeling more energized as I was feeling extreme fatigue and weakness). After a couple days of non-gluten products I felt 100% better. I had never felt more healthy in my life. The minute I went back to gluten products was the minute I felt terrible again. I would try getting rid of gluten products for a day or two and see if he does feel better. I have listed a few websites that might help give you an idea of just how much gluten is in everything. Above all, I recommend him seeing a doctor anyway, as soon as possible. I hope he feels better soon!
